Visit Salto is an independent site about Salto, Uruguay, written and run by me, Mathias Nicola. It is not a travel agency: I do not sell the experiences, I take no payment and I add nothing to the operators' prices. What I do is recommend, arrange and stay reachable. These terms say what that means for you when you read the site and when you book through it, in plain words. They apply from 23 October 2026.

The short version

  • A booking request is confirmed only when I confirm it, by WhatsApp or email, within 12 hours.
  • Nothing is paid to me. You pay the operator on the day, in Uruguayan pesos; at Termas del Daymán you pay at the gate; for an event, you buy the ticket from the organiser.
  • Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.
  • The operator runs the activity and is responsible for it. I arrange it, and I help if something needs sorting out.
  • Prices and opening hours on the site are checked when written and can change; my confirmation carries the exact amount.

What the site is, and what it is not

Everything on the site is written in good faith from what I know, what the operators tell me and what I check. Prices in US dollars are a reference so you can compare: the operators charge in pesos, and exchange rates move. Opening hours, timetables and prices change without anyone telling me, and I correct the site when I find out or when a reader writes. Before you travel, check the things your plans depend on, and ask me if a page looks out of date.

Nothing on the site is professional advice on health, law, visas or money. The hot springs pages describe the water and the pools, not a treatment; if you have a medical condition, ask your doctor before long soaks in hot water.

How a booking works

  1. You send a request from the experience page, or a WhatsApp message. It is a request, not a confirmed booking.
  2. I check availability with the operator and confirm by WhatsApp or email within 12 hours, with the meeting point, how to get there and the exact amount. If the date does not work, I say so and suggest another.
  3. On the day you pay the operator directly, in Uruguayan pesos at the equivalent of the price shown in US dollars, in cash or by bank transfer. Some operators also take dollars or euros; I say which when I confirm. At Termas del Daymán there is no operator to pay: the entry is bought at the gate. For an event with a fixed date, the ticket is bought from the organiser at list price.

I earn nothing from a booking: no commission, no service fee, no mark-up. Experiences marked "price on request" are priced per group, and the price is confirmed when you ask.

Cancelling or changing a booking

You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before the start, by WhatsApp or email. Later than that, tell me anyway: nothing has been paid, so there is nothing to refund, but the operator will have kept the day for you, and letting them know is the fair thing to do. Changing the date or the number of people is a message away, and I confirm the change the same way as the original request.

Some experiences depend on the weather or the river: the fishing, the boat crossing, the scenic flight, the river hike. If the operator cancels for safety, you owe nothing, and I help you find another date or something else to do with the day. If I have to cancel for any other reason, I tell you as soon as I know, and the same applies.

Who is responsible on the day

Each experience is run by a local operator: a guide, a boat owner, a spa, an estancia or a pilot. The operator provides the service, the equipment and the safety briefing, decides whether conditions allow the activity to go ahead, and is responsible for what happens during it. The agreement for the activity itself is between you and the operator; my part is to arrange it, to pass on your details and to stay reachable.

I list operators I have chosen myself, and I take it seriously when something is not right: tell me during the day if you can, and I help sort it out with them. What I cannot do is take responsibility for a service I do not provide, for the weather, the river or the roads, or for anything else outside my control. Nothing on this page takes away a right the law gives you as a consumer, or limits a liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

Your part

A few things make the day work: accurate details in the request, being at the meeting point at the time confirmed, following the operator's instructions on safety, and reading the conditions on the experience page, where some activities carry an age limit, a minimum number of people or a note on fitness. Travel insurance that covers what you plan to do is strongly recommended; the FAQ says the same.

The shop

The shop page shows designs that are ordered by email. There is no checkout on the site: you write, I reply with the price, the shipping and how to pay, and the order is agreed in that exchange.

Text, photographs and links

The text on the site is mine. The photographs are mine or by photographers and institutions who allowed their use, credited where they asked for it. You are welcome to quote a sentence or two with a link to the page; copying a page, a photograph or the booking texts for another site is not, without asking me first. Links to other sites are there because they are useful; I do not control them and am not responsible for what they say.

The legal part

I run Visit Salto as an individual based in London. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and a dispute that cannot be settled by talking goes to the courts there, without taking away your right to bring a claim where you live if the law gives you that right. If one part of these terms turns out not to be enforceable, the rest still applies. The current version is always the one on this page, with its date at the top.
