Get in touch →Is Salto expensive?
Less than the rest of Uruguay. Uruguay is the expensive country of its region; Salto and the north are its cheaper side, below Montevideo and well below Punta del Este. The distances are short, a whole day at the hot springs is UYU 200, about US$5, at the gate of Daymán, and the river, the countryside and the slowing down cost nothing. From the numbers on this site, a backpacker day comes to about US$45, a mid-range day for two to US$180 to 250 with the hotel, and the top end is Altos del Arapey from about US$300 a night for two, all-inclusive. The FAQ has the sums, and the VAT a foreign card takes off. And it buys a place few people outside the region know: warm water, rest, Uruguay's most famous UFO story at La Aurora, and the nearest big city a night's bus ride away.
