In Salto and at the hot springs

The Termas del Daymán point is on the park's entrance avenue, on Ruta 3, 10 km from the centre. Arapey only has slow charging (Type 2, 22 kW): an hour gives you back roughly 100 to 130 km, so plan for it if you go and return the same day (about 90 km each way).

From Montevideo via Ruta 1 and Ruta 3

About 500 km. A car with 300 km of real-world range needs one stop. The fast chargers on the way, ordered from Salto:

Distances are straight-line from Salto's centre: good for choosing where to stop, not for the odometer. There are 11 more slow points (Type 2) on the same corridor; they are on the map.

From Argentina (Buenos Aires, Concordia)

Ruta 14 to Concordia, then across the Salto Grande dam. Public charging on the Argentine side is thin: arrive in Concordia with enough charge to cross. The first Uruguayan point after the bridge is Barrio Dos Naciones (11 km, 2 × Type 2 22 kW); the nearest fast charger is ANCAP Salto (17 km from the bridge).

Connectors are the same as in Argentina (Type 2 for AC, CCS2 for DC). Car papers and passport for the border, as always.

From the north and the east

From Tacuarembó on Ruta 31 (about 200 km) the only point in between is Rincón de Valentín, at km 75, Type 2 at 43 kW.

What it costs and how you pay

Prices in Uruguayan pesos, valid since January 2026 according to UTE. As a visitor you pay each session with a credit or debit card in the app (the “carga puntual” mode); UTE's charging card is for customers on monthly billing.

• Install the UTE Mueve app before you travel (Android and iOS) and register at home, not on the road. It shows the map with live availability, starts the session by scanning the QR code on the post, and takes the payment.
• Cable: the fast CCS2 points have a tethered cable. Several Type 2 points do not: bring your Type 2 cable.
• On private premises (petrol stations, supermarkets) the owner may add charges.
• Unplug when you are done: after 20 minutes the per-minute fee starts.

Got room for a charger?

For a local with a shop, a hotel or land on the road there are two official routes, and neither is selling electricity yourself (Uruguay has no formal peer-to-peer charging scheme).

• Offer the site to UTE. UTE runs an open call for private owners willing to give up a space on their premises: if selected, UTE installs and maintains the public station at no cost, the place draws visitors, and the owner can earn an additional income.
• Become a charging point operator (OPC). For companies that want to run their own public network: connection fees waived and tariff discounts for five years outside the capital, with technical requirements (DC charging, interoperability, open to all the public). Details at UTE.

Where this data comes from

UTE's public charging network, taken from its official map on 7 September 2026: 213 stations nationwide, 130 with CCS2 fast charging. The network is growing (UTE has announced hundreds of new chargers), so this page is regenerated from time to time; the date above says when.
